16th April 2025

Postal votes are now said to be being delivered to eligible voters in Hartlepool ahead of what's set to be a nailbiting by-election, triggered by the resignation of Throston Ward Councillor Cameron Sharp.

Sharp, stepped down last month following reports that he was set to take on a new role with a council-operated school—an appointment that reportedly would have made it incompatible for him to continue serving as an elected councillor.

Only three candidates are said to be contesting the local by-election, which is expected to be Hartlepool’s only election in 2025 due to the current election cycle. And whilst other parts of the country will go to the polls next month for the local council elections, the spotlight's said to be firmly on Hartlepool, where its claimed Reform UK could potentially secure its first council seat in the Seaside Town...

Labours already finding it hard to win votes this time around

Early indications suggest Reform UK's election inroads in Hartlepool is gathering momentum without them relitevely having to lift a finger in terms of there being boots on the ground for campiagning, where an election win in Hartlepool would be a significant setback for Labour, who only regained control of Hartlepool Borough Council from a coalition of independents and Conservatives just over a year ago.

While postal votes are now said to be landing on the doormats for eligable voters, in-person voting will take place on the day of the local election itself (Thursday, 1st May), when polling stations across Hartlepool's Throston Ward will officially open, but projected turn out is once again expected to be 'poor' which critics claim would make an election win for Labour that little bit easier if voter apathy takes hold once more & voters simply fail to 'turn up' .

Throston By-Election Candidates as declared.....

Lyndsey Allen (Labour)

Amanda Knapper (Reform UK)
