After nearly two years of waiting, plans for the construction of nine one-bedroom bungalows by a social housing provider in the towns West View have finally been granted approval.

The application, originally submitted back in March 2023 by P+HS Architects on behalf of Home Group Ltd, proposed to build the bungalows on land at the junction of Arkley Crescent and Miers Avenue with the long term vacant site set to be transformed into much-needed homes for the local community. The site was previously home to nine bungalows which were demolished over a decade ago due to persistent surface water flooding. The land then remained unused since demolition where its claimed over the years, the sites became a magnet for anti-social behaviour and neglect, causing frustration for nearby residents. More recently, the land was used as a temporary construction compound until those works wrapped up in around 2018, leaving it vacant once again, with many locals calling for the site to be brought back into use once again.

Flooding Issues Resolved

Its claimed one of the biggest hurdles for redeveloping this site was the risk of flooding. However, reports state that significant works have now been carried out on the site to address the issues, with Engineers implementing measures to ensure the new bungalows—and surrounding areas—will no longer face the same problems.

When the plans were finally brought before council officers this week nearly two years after they were originally submitted, there were no objections to the proposals. In fact, the council's housing standards department actually voiced their support for the project, recognising the importance of providing high-quality housing in this part of town and the plans said to mark a positive step forward for West View, bringing new homes and new opportunities to an area that's seen a number of challenges.

With construction plans now approved, its expected locals wont have to wait very long before the site begins its transformation....
