Hartlepool Development Corporation Grants Approval for Exciting New Venture on Scarborough Street

2nd Jan 2025

Plans to transform a vacant family home into a vibrant bar and restaurant have been approved this week by the Hartlepool Development Corporation.

The proposals, submitted last year, aims to bring new life to the property in the towns Scarborough Street, which has remained empty for over two years. Wardman Brown, acting on behalf of the building's owners, sought a change of use to facilitate the redevelopment, including internal alterations and the addition of a first-floor rear terrace.

According to the planning statement, the ground and first floors will serve as public areas for the bar and restaurant, whilst the basement will house the kitchen and cellar. Staff facilities will be located in the second-floor attic.

Situated within a designated Late Night Uses Area, the Hartlepool Development Corporation concluded that the plans would not negatively impact the character, appearance, or function of the property or its surroundings, with the HDC seemingly welcoming the opportunity to re-purpose the long-vacant building into a new business venture.

Hartlepool Borough Council’s Economic Development Section also expressed strong support for the project. adding :

"We've reviewed the application for change of use and support the proposals to convert the property into a new bar/restaurant facility. The proposed development complements the wider Scarborough Street area and businesses and will create job opportunities for local people."

With approval now granted, the project's set to provide a fresh dining and nightlife destination in Hartlepool, boosting the local economy and adding to the vibrancy of the area.
